Searching for a Reddit Ads MCP server turns up four different kinds of thing wearing similar names. They are not alternatives to each other in the way the search results imply, so here is what actually separates them. Check current details on each provider's own page before you decide, because this space moves monthly.
1. A hosted read and write connector
A service holds the OAuth grant and exposes Reddit Ads as MCP tools over HTTP. You paste a URL, sign in with Reddit, and you are done. Reddit Ads MCP is one of these, and so are several commercial offerings that appear alongside it in search.
Suits anyone who wants to change the account, not only look at it, and does not want to run anything.
Costs a subscription. Ours is $12 a month or $84 a year after a 7-day free trial.
Watch for whether write access exists at all, and what stops the model from spending money. A connector with writes and no confirmation step is a bad trade.
2. An open source server you run
Community servers exist on GitHub, including a C# one that documents a read only tool set. You clone it, register your own Reddit developer app, hold your own credentials, and run it next to your client.
Suits developers who want the code in front of them and do not mind operating it.
Costs nothing but your time, plus wherever you host it.
Watch for coverage and freshness. The Reddit Ads API changes, several community OpenAPI files in circulation are wrong about paths and enums, and a read only server cannot make a change for you.
3. A read only data pipe
Analytics connectors sync Reddit Ads metrics into a warehouse or expose them to an assistant for reporting. They are excellent at putting Reddit numbers next to Google and Meta numbers.
Suits reporting across channels.
Costs a subscription, usually per data source.
Watch for the fact that reporting is the whole product. Nothing here creates a campaign or moves a bid.
4. Building it yourself
The Reddit Ads API is well documented and an MCP server is not hard to write. It is also a real commitment: OAuth and token refresh, microcurrency conversion everywhere, asynchronous post jobs, targeting objects that replace rather than merge, per endpoint rate limits, and a permission model so a model cannot spend your budget by being helpful.
Suits teams with unusual requirements, or an agency that needs it inside its own product.
Costs a week to something that works and continuous attention after that. Our notes on the parts that cost a day each are in the API guide.
How to choose in one line
If you only need to read, the cheapest thing that reads is right. If you want the assistant to change the account, the question that matters is not price, it is what the connector does when the model tries to increase a budget.
